About the Coalition for Racial Justice

Since 2011, NELCWIT has invested organizational resources in an internal anti-racism process. Although NELCWIT’s work is focused on sexual and domestic violence, we understand violence to be much broader and interconnected in its origins and manifestations. We believe that eradicating violence requires understanding and addressing its structural and institutional forms, as well. For that reason, undoing racism is a key part of carrying out NELCWIT’s mission. We understand our work as an anti-violence agency as requiring an active commitment to anti-oppression and anti-racism work.

Based on the national political atmosphere, we decided to build a coalition with other organizations and institutions in the region to work on dismantling systemic racism in the Franklin County/North Quabbin area. This initiative is conceived and led by NELCWIT’s staff.  We are currently organizing monthly meetings that bring together about 25 organizations in a Coalition for Racial Justice. The coalition has identified the following priority issues to concentrate our work toward dismantling racism in our region:

  • Accountability for racial justice
  • Welcoming people of color to Franklin County communities

By taking this step, we are moving towards becoming a more social justice-oriented organization that embraces social services as an important component of the social change movement. If you are interested in joining the Coalition for Racial Justice, contact Juan Carlos at .

Our Coalition is powered by a critical analysis of racism, and we have collected the key resources we used to get educated!

Almost twenty-seven years ago, NELCWIT was a lifesaver for me and my three kids, and none of us have forgotten. I'm just sharing this with you to let you know what a huge impact the courageous and dedicated women of NELCWIT, and the vital, top-notch services they provide, have had across time. I can't, and wouldn't want to, imagine my life without your grace and wisdom.
