NELCWIT is the Franklin County and North Quabbin area’s domestic violence and rape crisis center. We provide immediate, comprehensive support in cases of domestic and sexual violence. NELCWIT’s counselor-advocates offer emotional support, safety planning, and counseling, as well as referrals to other services. Counselor-advocates also support and accompany survivors in interactions with the police, the courts, and the District Attorney’s office. NELCWIT medical advocates are available 24 hours a day to meet survivors at the hospital and/or police station, supporting survivors’ options and individual choices about reporting and documenting an incident.

NELCWIT welcomes clients of all races/ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, abilities and disabilities, religions, backgrounds, or nationalities—and any immigration status. All services for survivors are always free of charge, regardless of insurance status. All services are confidential.

Our crisis line is always open to provide emotional support, information, and resources for people who have experienced domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault or abuse, rape, sexual trafficking, incest, harassment, or stalking. The crisis line is the primary entry point  to all of NELCWIT’s services. All crisis line staff are familiar with the needs of individuals who have experienced sexual assault and domestic violence, and all have expertise regarding resources available in the Franklin County and North Quabbin area.

The Crisis Line has staff who are fully bilingual in Spanish and English. We are able to talk with callers in over 200 more languages through our telephone interpretation service, and are enabled with TTY for use with hearing-impaired clients.

NELCWIT’s crisis line is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Walk-In Services

NELCWIT counselor-advocates are available to meet with individuals who come to the office seeking services without pre-scheduled appointments. Our advocates offer emotional support, referrals, safety planning and the option to refer clients to a counselor for continuing meetings when appropriate. Walk-in services are offered at our Greenfield office at 17 Long Avenue, Monday – Friday from 9am – 4pm.

Legal Advocacy & Assistance with Court Proceedings

NELCWIT's SafePlan advocates are here to support survivors who are seeking protective orders (sometimes known as restraining orders) at the Greenfield or Orange courts. Advocates provide support to survivors at court proceedings and offer referrals to additional legal services. SafePlan advocates are available whenever the courts are open.

Counselors can provide access to legal advice regarding family and probate issues from attorneys while at NELCWIT. Through collaborations with the Franklin County Bar Association and Community Legal Aid, NELCWIT also offers free, hour-long legal consultations relating to housing issues for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors.

Additionally, NELCWIT collaborates with the Massachusetts Northwestern District Attorney’s office and area police departments to provide the Domestic Violence Intervention Project (DVIP). Following the arrest of a batterer, participating police departments contact DVIP. An on-call advocate speaks with survivors and/or arranges to meet at the police station to provide support and referrals for counseling, shelter, and legal advocacy during times when the courts are closed.

Medical Advocacy

NELCWIT advocates are available 24 hours a day to support survivors of sexual assault at the hospital during a medical or forensic exam. After a domestic violence or sexual assault incident, NELCWIT advocates are available to offer emotional support, medical advocacy services (including being present for support during a Sexual Assault Evidence Gathering Kit procedure), safety planning, counseling, referrals, and advocacy with the police and courts.

Almost twenty-seven years ago, NELCWIT was a lifesaver for me and my three kids, and none of us have forgotten. I'm just sharing this with you to let you know what a huge impact the courageous and dedicated women of NELCWIT, and the vital, top-notch services they provide, have had across time. I can't, and wouldn't want to, imagine my life without your grace and wisdom.
